“The Underside of Valentine’s Day”
Ties between Child Trafficking/Slavery and the Cocoa Industry
More than one hundred thousand children toil under extreme labor conditions on cocoa farms through western Africa, and at least 10,000 are victims of human trafficking and enslavement.
As Valentine’s Day approaches, Americans will spend $345 million eating 58 million pounds of chocolate.
Most chocolate purchases finance modern day slavery and human trafficking.
Screening of the film, “The Dark Side of Chocolate” will be followed by a panel of speakers.
