FCAHT & ELLA’S FOLK ART CAFE TO HOST EMANCIPATION DAY FUNDRAISING AND AWARENESS BALLOON RAELEASE
On April 16, 2011, the Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking [FCAHT] will join with Ella’s Folk Art Cafe in hosting its first Emancipation Day Balloon Release to raise money and awareness about modern day slavery in the U.S. and around the world. Currently, there are approximately 27 million people enslaved throughout the world with 2.5 million located right here in the United States. Each year, 600,000 to 800,000 more people are being trafficked worldwide. Human slavery was supposed to end in the U.S. with the passing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1862 and Thirteenth Amendment in 1865. Sadly, statistics show that slavery is still alive and flourishing throughout the U.S. and the entire world. Emancipation Day marks the day when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act which led to freeing of over Three Thousand slaves in Washington D.C. on April 16, 1862, nine months prior to the Emancipation Proclamation. Join FCAHT and ELLA’S FOLK ART CAFE on April 16, 2011 from 1:00P.M. to 3:00P.M. at: 5119 N. Nebraska Avenue Tampa, Florida 33603
