Florida Coalition Against Human Trafficking (FCAHT), an International and Domestic Anti-Trafficking Agency, is a 501(c)(3) organization that has been helping victims of human trafficking since it’s creation in 2004. FCAHT’s founder, Anna Rodriguez, had her first experience with a Human Trafficking case in 1999; U.S. vs. Tecum. Anna served as a victim advocate with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office and an outreach coordinator for the Immokalee Shelter for Abused Women in Collier County, Florida for 10 years. Her first human trafficking case developed from a “home visitation”, following up on a domestic violence incident. She noticed the presence of a young female who turned out to be a victim of human trafficking. Anna identified “red flags” that made her suspicious and eventually she helped get the victim out. Today the Tecum case has become a major case study by agencies including USDOJ, FSU, Croft Institute for International and New York Times. Anna was also able to identify and work with the FBI and USDOJ on a domestic servitude and sex trafficking case known as the “ Blackjack “ case, in which she also assisted ICE.
FCAHT works closely with community service providers to provide victims with emergency food and shelter, medical and psychological treatment and other services as needed to help these individuals restore their lives and their freedoms.
FCAHT provides training to law enforcement agencies, medical facilities, faith based, civil and community organizations to bring awareness and recognition to the signs and symptoms of Human Trafficking. To schedule a training presentation for your group, call (727) 442-3064.
FCAHT also works very closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco County Sheriff’s offices and local law enforcement agencies in investigations and prosecutions of traffickers as well as providing advocacy for the victims of human trafficking.

I was wondering if there was any way to work with the victims providing education, or volunteer in a shelter. Until now it is my understanding that the coalition focuses more with raising awareness.

Hi Vivian,
Due to some bad expirences we have had with prior volunteers who did have access to our clients, we no longer allow volunteers to assist with victim care until they have been volunteering for several months. It is not easy to get access to our clients. This is all done for their safety. Thanks

There are several anti trafficking organizations that are based out of New York. The best think to do would be to call the Human Trafficking Rescource Hotline, which is 888-3737-888. Not only can you report potential human trafficking cases using this phone number but you can ask for information pertaining to any local orgnaization.

I was part of the audience at the AMLA meeting in Orlando on September 13. I learned a lot of great information. I plan on incorporating some of the warning signs in some front line training at the branches.
